Ambidextrous Scissors
Scissors are an essential part of any household utility drawer and are used in everyone's day to day life, whether it be for crafts, wrapping or food preparation. In most cases a standard pair of scissors are all that is required. However for some people, or in some situations, using a wrong handed pair of scissors can cause pain and lead to frustration.
In the world today around 13% of people are left handed. These people develop techniques to tackle a world that has been designed for a right handed person. In most cases products such as telephones or microwaves can be used in either hand without problem, while other products require users to change the way they use the device to allow them to work effectively. In the case of scissors this can lead to discomfort and a drop in performance.
Currently on the market there are either right or left handed scissors. There are some devices that are marketed as being ambidextrous. These are generally based on a right handed pair of scissors but with symmetrical handles to accommodate either hand. However this does not remedy the actual issue that arises from the devices being handed/sided.
Ambicut Ambidextrous Scissors are different. They have been designed to be used in either hand without modification between hands or a drop in performance. The patented design utilises a single top blade which pivots between two separate bottom blades depending on the hand that is used.
There are two issues caused by using a pair of scissors in the wrong hand. Firstly the top blade obstructs the user's view and therefore covers the line of cut. Secondly the motion of the hands pushes the blades apart, preventing the required shearing action. This second issue is generally rectified by left handed users when using right handed scissors by turning their thumb inwards to generate the required motion to create a shearing action between the blades. However, this creates discomfort for the user. The Ambicut Ambidextrous Scissors solves both of these issues as the top blade is always on the outside of the bottom shearing blade.
